    360 KB: Safari: Additional Provider/New Platform -- April 2018

What is happening with Safari content?

The provider ProQuest is still maintaining Safari databases; in addition, Safari content is being provided by O’Reilly Safari Learning Platform/Safari Books Online. Your institution's subscriptions will determine which database(s) to subscribe to.

If you subscribe to Safari content through ProQuest - access through https://proquest*.safaribooksonline.com - you do not need to make any changes at this time. You can continue to subscribe to one or more of these active databases:

    DBID

    Database Name

    URL

    AK4

    Safari Business Books (Current File)

    https://proquestbus.safaribooksonline.com

    DRU

    AK3

    Safari Technical Books

    Safari Technical Books (Current File)

    https://proquest.safaribooksonline.com

    6XM

Safari Business and Technical Books Combo Collection

    https://proquestcombo.safaribooksonline.com

Note: There is no timeline yet for decommissioning the existing Safari collections.

If you subscribe to Safari content through O’Reilly Safari Learning Platform/Safari Books Online, you will make some changes in the Client Center so you can access Safari content on the new platform. You can unsubscribe from the collections you previously subscribed to and subscribe to either one of these two collections (depending on your institution type, Academic or Corporate):

    DBID

    Database Name

    URL

    OODEK

O'Reilly Safari Learning Platform: Academic edition

    https://www.safaribooksonline.com

    OHILO

O'Reilly Safari Learning Platform: Corporate Edition

    https://www.safaribooksonline.com

Action you need to take if migrating to the new platform (O’Reilly Safari Learning Platform):

    • If you are a 360 Resource Manager, 360 Counter, or Intota client and you have information attached to the old provider that also pertains to the new provider (such as license information), you can attach the information to the new provider in the same way they were attached to the old provider.  See information about attaching resources and licenses:
      • Intota users click here.
      • Client Center users click here.
    • If you are a 360 MARC Updates client and have requested the custom specification that adds the provider name as it appears in the Client Center/Intota to MARC records, you can expect to see some change records when you get your MARC records.
    • If your library uses a third-party service (such as SFX, EBSCO A-Z, etc.), custom scripts to manage data, or other non-ProQuest tools that require the provider name to function, you should note the change in ProQuest's provider name in order to retain the proper relationship/mapping between those tools.
