360 KB: Significant changes to IEEE database offerings -- Aug.2016

    • Product: 360 KB

What is happening to IEEE databases this summer?

IEEE and the Knowledgebase Provider Data Team have been working together to improve IEEE content representation in the ProQuest KB. We have discovered some inconsistencies in the way we represent IEEE content and the way that it is licensed by libraries. In order to maintain accurate and authoritative provider metadata (based on the Knowledgebase Collection Policy), we will be making changes to the following databases in the Knowledgebase on Aug.11th, 2016:

    • IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEDL)
    • IEEE Enterprise
    • AIP/AVS Applied Physics Library

Below are the details of the changes to the three databases.

    IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL)

For IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL), we will add approximately 22,000 monograph (book) records to the existing serial-only database, called “IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL)” (database code: RIE) in order to represent all of the content available in this subscription. To get access to everything in the IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) subscription, simply select the “IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL)” (database code: RIE) database, or remain subscribed to it if you already are.

We will add a new database “IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) Journals” to represent the serials-only content, in case you prefer to manage the serial and book content separately. We will also be renaming these databases slightly in order to match the package names given by IEEE per their KBART Title List site more closely. The content of these databases will remain the same.

The table below shows the changes for IEEE/IET Electronic Library content, effective August 11, 2016::

Database Name Database Code Description of the Change Action Required
IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) RIE Add approx. 22,000 monograph/book records to the package If this database is already tracked in your profile, no action required. We recommend you select this database if you are currently tracking multiple IEL databases in order to consolidate your management.

Note: 360 MARC Updates customers can expect to see approximately 22,000 add records after this change takes place.

IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) Proceedings By Volume 6IE Renaming to “IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) Conference Proceedings” (content will remain the same) If you are a 360 MARC Updates client and have requested the custom specification that adds the database name as it appears in the Client Center/Intota to MARC records, you can expect to see some change records when you get your MARC records after August 15.

If your library uses a third-party service (such as SFX, EBSCO A-Z, etc.), custom scripts to manage data, or other non-ProQuest tools that require the database name to function, you should note the change in ProQuest's database name in order to retain the proper relationship/mapping between those tools.

IEEE/IET Electronic Library Standards (IEL) 0X0 Renaming to “IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) Standards” (content will remain the same) If you are a 360 MARC Updates client and have requested the custom specification that adds the database name as it appears in the Client Center/Intota to MARC records, you can expect to see some change records when you get your MARC records after August 15.

If your library uses a third-party service (such as SFX, EBSCO A-Z, etc.), custom scripts to manage data, or other non-ProQuest tools that require the database name to function, you should note the change in ProQuest's database name in order to retain the proper relationship/mapping between those tools.

IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) Journals (New Database - DB Code: IFIPE) We will add this database to give an alternate method to track IEEE/IET Digital Library (IEL) content in the KB for those that want it.

None. Select this database if you want to use it, however customers are best served by selecting DB Code: RIE instead.

    IEEE Enterprise

Similar in change to IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEDL) above, we will make an addition to IEEE Enterprise. The database “IEEE Enterprise” (DB Code: OCL) which currently only has serial records, will have approximately 20,000 titles added to it. We will add a new database “IEEE Enterprise Journals” to represent the serials-only content, in the case that you want to continue to manage the serial and book content separately, however customers are best served by selecting DB Code: OCL instead. 360 MARC Updates customers can expect to see approximately 20,000 add records after this change takes place.

In addition, the following databases will have their names changed:

    AIP/AVS Applied Physics Library

The database AIP/AVS Applied Physics Library from the provider IEEE is no longer being updated. This database will no longer be hosted on IEEE Xplore. In order to maintain accurate and authoritative provider metadata, all titles will be removed from AIP/AVS Applied Physics Library database and the database will be hidden in the Knowledgebase on Aug.11th, 2016. The database will become a zero-titles database, and no future subscriptions will be possible (NOTE: The database code for this database is 1XP).
