360 KB: Wiley Realignment and Standardization

What is happening to Wiley products?

We are collaborating with our contacts at Wiley to plan and implement a number of actions in order to more accurately align the 360KB representations of Wiley content, collections, and products. These changes have become necessary due to changes in the nature of content and the structure of collections over the years, on both Wiley's part as well as our own. While we have maintained relevant and accurate content, the intervening years have resulted in an accumulation of collections which may no longer be current, relevant, nor maintained by ourselves and Wiley. Working together, we have decided to audit and realign our 360KB holdings in order to match Wiley's offerings and standardize them to their nomenclature.

This will include, but is not limited to the following initiatives:

    • Rebranding Wiley-Blackwell to Wiley in all database nomenclature
    • Adding necessary new collections to the 360KB
    • Removing deprecated databases from the 360KB.
    • Migrating Subject Backfiles databases
    • Removing long-deprecated platforms such as Wiley Interscience and Blackwell Synergy

This article is a centralized list of every action we will be taking in order to realize the full scope this endeavor. No changes will be made that are not listed here. Please refer to this article for updates.

    Rebranding to Wiley

Wiley have indicated that they are rebranding from their former name, Wiley-Blackwell, to simply, Wiley. Therefore, we are respecting their efforts and following suit in the way we name our databases moving forward. We have already dropped the Wiley-Blackwell terminology from new databases we have created. Instead, we are prepending only Wiley to the database names, or else the current platform name Wiley Online Library.

As a result of our ongoing audit of current databases, we will either be updating the Wiley-Blackwell databases' names, and content if necessary, or we will be retiring them and mapping them to new databases where appropriate.

Relatedly, we will finally be retiring the Blackwell Synergy and Wiley Interscience non-consortium databases, as those platforms have been long deprecated.
