    • Product: 360 KB

What is happening with the Gale databases?

Update 4/28/16: DBID BBJ has been Hidden; please see table at 2. Database Migrations below.

Update 11/2/15: All database changes described below have now been applied.
    _________________________________

The provider Gale has recently informed us of some changes to their collections. See below for notifications of (1) Database Name and URL Changes, and (2) Database Migrations.

    1. Database Name and URL Changes

In order to better align with Gale naming conventions, and provide the most up-to-date Gale product codes within title URLs, we will be changing the database names and title-level linking syntax for 3 Gale databases in the Knowledgebase. The database IDs and content of the databases will remain the same. Note: these URL changes will not affect Gale-specific Location IDs within these URLs.

This change will take effect on Oct. 30, 2015.

DB ID Before Oct. 30 After Oct. 30
O1N Scribner Writers Online (Gale Virtual Reference Library) Scribner Writers on GVRL
O1D Twayne's Authors Online (Gale Virtual Reference Library) Twayne's Authors on GVRL
ISE InfoTrac Student Edition Student Edition

Actions you may need to take:

    • If you are a 360 MARC Updates client and have requested the custom specification that adds the database name as it appears in the Client Center/Intota to MARC records, and/or you have requested the custom specification that adds direct URLs to MARC records, you can expect to see some change records when you get your MARC records after Oct. 30, 2015.
    • If your library uses a third-party service (such as SFX, EBSCO A-Z, etc.), custom scripts to manage data, or other non-ProQuest tools that require the database name to function, you should note the change in ProQuest's database name in order to retain the proper relationship/mapping between those tools.

    2. Database Migrations

Gale has retired some old databases recently, as well as launched some new products. In order to avoid service disruptions, the URLs in the old Gale databases are already redirecting to the newer and/or current Gale products. Gale has informed us that these redirects will stop at some point in the near future.

In order to maintain accurate and authoritative provider metadata (based on the Knowledgebase collection policy), all old Gale databases in the table below are now hidden. In addition, titles will be removed from the old full-text databases in the Knowledgebase on Oct. 30, 2015. The old Gale full-text databases will become zero-titles databases. For more information about which old Gale full-text databases will have titles removed, please see the table below.

    Action you need to take:

    • As soon as possible, update the holdings in your Intota or Client Center profile by subscribing to the current databases instead of the old databases, as per the table below.  For information on how to update your profile, and considerations prior to removing the old databases from your profile:
      • Intota users click here.
      • Client Center users click here.
    • After subscribing to the current databases, please follow these instructions to set up your Gale title level links for the current databases.
    • If you are a 360 MARC Updates client and have requested the custom specification that adds direct URLs or database specific information to MARC records, you can expect to see some change records when you get your MARC records after Oct. 30, 2015.
