360 Core: Data Optimization - Configure Library Settings and External Tools

    • Product: 360 Core Client Center

How do I make sure that my library settings are correct and my external tools are configured to work with my Discovery Services?

Follow these steps to ensure that key library settings are up to date, and external services are configured to work correctly with your ProQuest Discovery Services.
Each step includes the following: priority, service or services affected by the issue, why you would want to perform this step, how to address the issue, and additional information when available.
This page is part of a larger set of documentation about optimizing your profile in the Client Center.

Update your IP addresses in the Client Center

    Priority:

    Critical: Summon
    Optional: 360 Link

    Why?
IP addresses in the Client Center's Library Settings are used by several Serials Solutions services to help provide seamless access to your resources. Additionally, Summon uses your IP ranges to display the Authentication Banner because some Summon content is only available to authenticated users. And, 360 Link uses Client Center IP ranges for integration with Google Scholar.
    How?
If your institution adds or changes IP ranges, be sure to make the appropriate changes in Library Settings by following the instructions in Client Center: Library Settings. For 360 Search, you must also add the IP ranges to the User Authentication service.

Configure your proxy service to allow access to your subscribed resources

    Priority:
    Critical
    Services Affected:
360 Core, 360 Link, 360 MARC Updates, Summon
    Why?
In order to provide uninterrupted access to all your resources, you must configure your proxy with the proper domains for all resources selected in your Data Management area of the Client Center except where you have omitted your proxy from a resource.
    How?
Check your proxy settings to make sure that the correct domains are added to your proxy for all resources in Data Management that you want proxied. In most cases, the domains needed by ProQuest Discovery Services will match the domains specified by your providers and proxy vendor. Most often, if these domains are already in place correctly, no further action will be needed.

In some cases, however, the Index Enhanced Direct Linking technology used by Summon and 360 Link requires you to add additional domains to your proxy settings. See Summon: Resources That are Linked Directly in Summon Results for a list of domains to add.

If you need assistance, contact your proxy vendor for configuration directions specific to your proxy product.

Activate 360 Link with each content provider that you want to act as a referring source for your OpenURL link-resolver

    Priority:
    Critical
    Services Affected:
    360 Link
    Why?
To give your patrons the opportunity to access 360 Link when using Abstracting and Indexing databases or other content resources, you must configure that site to be a referring source for your 360 Link OpenURL Link Resolver.
    How?
The referring source activation procedure varies by database provider. Some providers allow setup to take place via their online administrator module, while others require that you contact their Customer Service Department. For detailed information, see the 360 Link and Journal Linker: Referring Source Setup Guide.
    Additional Information:

Make sure the holdings in your link-resolver tool match your Client Center holdings

    Priority:
    Critical
    Services Affected:
Summon (for libraries with a link-resolver other than 360 Link)
    Why?
The Summon service verifies whether you have access to a title by seeing if you have the title set to Subscribed in the Client Center during a specific time frame (coverage dates). If the subscription information you have entered in the Client Center does not match what you have activated in your link-resolver s management tool, this will cause discrepancies between results in the Summon service and your link-resolver results page.
    How?
Ensure that your link-resolver s administration tool matches the subscription information you have listed in the Data Management section of the Client Center.
