360 Core: Data Optimization - Update Database Details

    • Product: 360 Core Client Center

How do I make make sure that my database details are correct and helpful?

Database Details page settings control the way that your resources work in your Discovery Services. Keeping these settings accurate and up-to-date is essential for successful linking to full-text content and appropriate display in your Discovery Services.
Each step includes the following: priority, service or services affected by the issue, why you would want to perform this step, how to address the issue, and additional information when available.
  • Recommended
  • Optional
  • This page is part of a larger set of documentation about optimizing your profile in the Client Center.

Check the corresponding Display In box for each service in which you want a database included.

    Priority:
    Critical
    Services Affected:
360 Core, 360 Link, 360 MARC Updates, 360 Search, Summon
    Why?
Setting a resource to a status other than Not Tracked in the Client Center will activate this resource in your Client Center profile. Each resource also includes a Display In checkbox for 360 Core, 360 Link, 360 MARC Updates and Summon. The resource will only appear in your Summon service and your various 360 services results pages if you have the corresponding Display In box checked.
    How?
Run and download a Client Center Database Details report. Review the "Display In" settings for each of your subscribed services. If any changes are needed, follow the instructions here: 360 Core: Changing a Resource Display.
    Additional Information:

Add institution identifiers and Custom URLs to databases from providers that require special settings for authentication.

    Priority:
    Critical
    Services Affected:
360 Core, 360 Link, 360 MARC Updates, 360 Search, Summon
    Why?
Some providers require you to add institution-specific identifiers to the URLs leading to their content for authentication purposes. You need to add these identifiers to the Client Center Database Details page for relevant resources. In some cases, you will also need notify Serials Solutions so that we can register the identifiers for use in title-level URLs.
    How?
Review the list of databases and providers in Serials Solutions Services: Databases that Require Custom Configurations to find out if any of your resources require special entries in the Client Center. If so, follow the instructions provided to ensure that your resources are configured correctly.
You can review your current configuration settings by running and downloading a Client Center: Database Details Report report.

Do not select the option to use database-level URL for all titles in the database.

    Priority:
    Critical
    Services Affected:
    360 Core, 360 Link, 360 MARC Updates
    Why?
If you select the option to Use database-level (custom or default) URL only for all titles in this database, your title-level links will go to the Database default page rather than to the specific title. This type of linking is undesirable and inconvenient for users; however, if your library uses Dynix RPA for remote authentication, you will need to select this option.
    How?
If your title-level URLs are failing for any reason, contact us using the Support Portal option at the top of the page so we can assist you in correcting the problem. Do not place a checkmark in the box for Use database-level (custom or default) URL only for all titles in this database on the Database Details page as a solution to broken title-level links unless you use Dynix RPA as a remote authentication type. You can review your current settings by running and downloading a Client Center Database Details report.
    Additional Information:

Omit your proxy from resources that do not require authentication.

    Priority:
    Recommended
    Services Affected:
360 Core, 360 Link, 360 MARC Updates, Summon
    Why?
Avoid authentication errors by omitting your proxy from resources that do not need to be proxied. Typically, this includes databases containing open-access content such as the databases listed in 360 KB: Databases of Free E-journals and E-books.
    How?
Place a checkmark in the Omit proxy from this database box on the Database Details page for resources that you do not want proxied.
    Additional Information:

Add Custom Database Names, Database Descriptions, Public Notes, and Location Notes.

    Priority:
    Optional
    Services Affected:
