    360 Core: Database Not Selectable

    • Product: 360 Core Client Center

Why can't we make a database selectable, even though we subscribe to only some of the titles in a database?

Typically, libraries make databases selectable so that they can select individual titles (see 360 Core: Including Select Journals Within a Database). Instead of receiving all new titles to the database automatically, this option allows libraries to select new titles only as they are purchased.
Some databases do not have this ability by default. These databases are typically from aggregators (such as ProQuest or EBSCO), or represent packages of content available from providers that are not customizable (some examples include SAGE Publications' various journal packages, Oxford University Press' or Wiley-Blackwell's subject collections, and so on). Because the content in the databases is purchased as a whole, it is not desirable to select individual titles only, as any new titles added to the database will not be automatically selected.
If you want to only select individual titles within these aggregated or package databases, please contact Library Support (using the Contact Us feature) to make that database selectable for you. However, please understand that you will be responsible for selecting new titles as they are added to that particular collection.
Databases inherited by a consortium member from a consortium manager profile cannot be made selectable. For more information on working with inherited databases, click here. (Note added July 16, 2013.)
