    360 Link: Google Scholar Setup

    • Product: 360 Link

How do I set up Google Scholar as a referring source?

Setup is available to 360 Link clients only. Per our contractual agreement with Google, we cannot offer this feature to trial clients of 360 Link.
To set up Google Scholar as a referring source for your library:
    1. Please review the Google Scholar FAQ to answer questions about the feature before getting started.

    2. Log in to the Ex Libris Client Center Home page.

    3. Under 360 Link, click Google Scholar Setup.

    4. In the upper-right corner, click Edit.

    5. Fill in the following fields:

      Field Description

      Register with Google Scholar

Select this check box to register your institution with Google Scholar.

      Institution Name

      Specify your institution's name.

      Full-Text Link Name

Specify the text that will display for your link in Google Scholar when full text is available in your library's collection. This text usually appears to the right of the citations in Google Scholar search results. Please note that this field accepts a maximum of 25 characters.

      Other Link Name

Specify the text that will display for your link in Google Scholar when full text is not available in your library's collection. This text usually appears below the citations in Google Scholar search results. Please note that this field accepts a maximum of 25 characters.

      Link Resolver Base URL

This field is populated for you during the initial configuration of 360 link. You may edit the URL if your DNS has been customized, or if you want to force the encryption of OpenURLs received from Google Scholar. We recommend the base URL format LIBHASH.search.serialssolutions.com.

To force https encryption and prevent mixed content warnings in your browser, change http to https in your link resolver's base URL.

      Provide IP Addresses/Ranges

Select this check box. For more explanation on why this is needed, see Google Scholar FAQ.

      Restrict Access by IP

If IP addresses/ranges are provided, you may restrict access to these IP addresses/ranges only. For more information, see Google Scholar FAQ.

    6. Click Save.

    7. Return to the Client Center Home page.

    8. Under Manage Your Library, click Library Settings.

    9. In the left-side navigation tree, click Library/Institutional IPs.

    10. In the upper-right corner, click Add.

    11. Fill in the IP Address or IP Address Range End field. Remember not to include wild cards, such as asterisks, in your IP Address.

    12. In the upper-right corner, click Save.

Once you activate Google Scholar in the Client Center, we make your holdings available to Google but it is important to note that it will take 1 to 2 weeks before you start seeing your holdings in Google Scholar. You can check to see when the Google Scholar index was last updated by following these steps.

To see your holdings integrated with Google Scholar:
    1. Go to http://scholar.google.com

    2. Click Settings above the search button.

    3. Click Library Links on the left side and enter your institution's name and click Search. Make sure there's a check next to your institution's name, and click Save.

    4. Do a search in Google Scholar for something general to test this out; you should see links to check your holdings for full-text, which will take you to your 360 Link results page.

This is how you will know the feature is working. If you're not seeing links to check for full-text after a few weeks, please let us know using the Support Portal option near the top of this page.
