    360 Services: Athens-Enabled Content Providers

    • Product: E-Journal Portal

Why can't 360 Core E-Journal Portal, 360 Search, or 360 Link provide links into Athens-enabled content providers, such that patrons don't need sign on a second time into the content providers?

We understand our library clients want to provide a single sign-on (SSO) experience from our discovery services (the E-Journal Portal, 360 Search, and 360 Link) into Athens-enabled content. Unfortunately, there isn't a universal industry-standard method that content providers use to implement linking into their Athens-enabled content.
Some libraries also have two further sign-on issues:
    • Some online content providers do not support Athens authentication.
    • Athens-enabled content providers support linking from discovery services in different ways. For example, a number of Athens-enabled content providers do not support links using Athens DSP Id; please review this document to see which providers do and don't support DSP Id.
