    Question

Is it possible for NCIP to place an item into in-transit status, so it can be returned to its home library?

    Answer

    • In-Transit functionality is not supported by NCIP.
    • When an Item is returned it will always be checked-in to the receiving sublibrary even if that sublibrary is not the item's home library.

    Additional Information

    • SIP2 protocol allows in-transit functionality
    • According to rep_ver 14083:
If the SIP2 parameter XXX50/tab_sip2.conf/item_transfer=Y, the system allows in-transit status to be assigned to a returned item during self check-in. A loan record will then be created with the ID of the sublibrary the item is to be placed in-transit to.
