    Question

In keyword search it makes no difference whether you add "&" or "and" in a title for the search, in browse search you get different results. Sample title is "Philosophy & social criticism".

    Answer

The keyword search and the browse search work differently:

    Aleph keyword search:
In the keyword search the "and" and also the "&" act as boolean operator and are therefore extracted from the search meaning they are not considered as words to search. They are only acting as operator. So a search for "Philosophy & social criticism" would be translated into a search "Philosophy and social and criticism".

    Aleph Browse search:
Here it's a bit different. A heading entry is stored in the system as complete phrase, e.g. "Philosophy & social criticism", and there's no translation of boolean operators. So if your cataloged title has the "&" in it you must type the "&", if it has an "and" in it you must type the "and".
