What counters do I have to add for use with EDI & how do I add them?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
There are several counters used in various EDI procedures. Some are used for outgoing EDI messages, and some are used for incoming EDI messages. Even if you aren't using all EDI procedures, there is no harm in adding all of them to your system.

The specific counters are emumeriated in the Staff User Guide Acquistions document, section 6.1.7. These counters are added using UTIL G 2. Here is the current list:

    ************************************
The following EDI counters must be set in UTIL G/2 (database definitions - Display/Update library parameters) of the ADM library (XXX50):

    1. last-edi-order - keeps track of the number of orders (EDI outgoing message type: ORDERS) that have been sent from the library to any of the vendors by EDI.

    2. last-edi-claim - keeps track of the number of claims (EDI outgoing message type: OSTENQ) that have been sent from the library to any of the vendors by EDI.

    3. last-edi-order-change - keeps track of the number of order changes (EDI outgoing message type: ORDCHG) that have been sent from the library to any of the vendors by EDI.

    4. last-edi-message - keeps track of the number of outgoing EDI messages that have been sent from the library.

    5. last-edi-log-no - keeps track of logs that have been created due to the loading of incoming EDI messages. Following are two examples:
Loading of serials invoice (EDI message type INVOIC) into ALEPH.
Loading of claims response or order status reports (EDI message type ORDRSP).

last-edi-log-no can be used to retrieve the EDI error messages that have been recorded during the loading of the data into ALEPH. To access the EDI Load Log, in the Acquisitions/Serials GUI, from the Navigation Tree of the Administration Tab, select the EDI Log Load root.

Some or all of the counters may already be defined. You can determine this using the same utility - UTIL G 2. Here are the steps for checking the current status of the counters:

    1) dlib to your ADM library (xxx50).
    2) Enter UTIL
    3) Enter G
    4) Enter 2

All the currently defined counters will display. If some or all of the edi counters have not yet been added, add them using the following steps. In this example, the counter last_edi_log_no is being added:

    1) dlib to your ADM library (xxx50).
    2) Enter UTIL
    3) Enter G
    4) Enter 2
    5) Enter NEW
    6) When prompted with 'Enter sequence name', enter last_edi_log_no, then press enter
    7) When prompted with 'Enter sequence start number', enter 0 (that is, the number zero), then press enter
    8) When prompted with 'Enter prefix for format output', type nothing. Just press enter
    9) When prompted with 'Do you want to supress leading zeros in format output', enter y, then press enter
    10) When prompted with 'Enter type', enter U, then press enter
    11) When prompted with 'Confirm' enter y, then press enter

The new counter has been added. You can confirm this using UTIL G 2. Add all necessary counters using this same technique.
