    “Total delete” permissions

    Question

Is it possible to give every cataloger an 'Total delete' permission but only if the bib record has items/holdings belonging to the sublibrary for which the cataloger has permissions? If the record has items attached belonging to a different sublibrary, then the “Total delete” shouldn't work.

    Answer

The ”delete total bib” function is one of the functions that should be permitted only to very few staff members. This is a single action that affects all components of a BIB record, including ADM record, items etc. It does not go into fine resolution such as sublibrary permissions (although misleadingly it's possible to permit this action on sublibrary level)! Imagine that items of 3 sublibraries are all deleted and then you get to sublibrary 4 and oops – there’s no permission.

The “Delete total BIB” function checks only a single permission and if it exists, the function goes all the way with the deletions. There is no stopping in the middle and no turning back … Therefore this permission should better be limited to very few staff members.
