AIK: length of oracle user name

    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 22

    Question

In installing a v22 instance of Aleph on a server which already has v20, a new oracle user for Oracle 11g needs to be created, different from the Oracle user ‘oracle11’ that exists for Oracle 11.1 (11.1.0.7.0). Will ‘oracle11g’ be OK (9 characters long)?

    Answer

No, 9 characters is too many. Article 000033092 (AIK: error creating Oracle user: "awk: insufficient memory for string storage") (link below) notes the following message from the AIK:

"Insert the alternative name instead oracle user (must be up to 8 characters alphanumerics lowercase)"

Thus, in the AIK, the Oracle user name can be no more than 8 characters. (This may not be limitation in Oracle, but it's clearly a limitation in the AIK.)
