    Adjacency doesn't work with ADJACENCY_TYPE = 0

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
I find that when ADJACENCY_TYPE is set to "0" in v15.2, the only way a user can do an adjacency search is by entering "!0" between the adjacent words.
Sites may choose not to build the full-word pairs (ADJACENCY_TYPE 2) but this does not mean that they should not be able to do adjacency.
(It seems that in v15.2 when the ADJACENCY_TYPE is 0, the system is looking for the fullword pairs anyway, as though it were adjacency_type 2. In v14.2, "ADJACENCY N" did not mean that there was no adjacency; it meant that the equivalent "zero-level" proximity search (william !0 smith) was done instead.)

    Resolution:
ADJACENCY_TYPE 0 is not supported in v15.2-up; you need to run p_manage_01 with ADJACENCY_TYPE 2.
Note 1: This requires more space/time, about double. See the "How To Run Index Jobs" document.
Note 2: You *can* still do adjacency like this (as "zero-level proximity"): william !0 smith (I realize that this is not something you can expect the students to know, but the staff could show it to them in cases that really require it.)
