    Adjacency search or phrase search?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
The order of the words in an adjacency search seems to be important in ALEPH.
For example "big dogs" and "dogs big" as search arguments for an adjacency search do not return the same search results. The above examples should return the same results from an adjacency search if it is a true adjacency search. If it is just a phrase search then the results should be different.

What is ALEPH really doing: adjacency or phrase searching?

    Resolution:
When the "Words Adjacent? Yes" is checked, the system retrieves "big dog" but not "dog big".

A "zero-level proximity" search ( big !0 dog ) can be used to retrieve both "big dog" and "dog big".

    (Keyword: Adjacency)
