Resolution:
To resolve the problem, add the following line to XXX50/tab/path_convert:
$XXX50_dev/XXX50/www_x_eng $aleph_dev/aleph/www_x_eng
The following link will now take you to the correct menu (note the slash after X):
http://local_host:port/X/?op=explain&file=list
