    Authority control project: reloading/indexing bib and authority records

    • Article Type: General

    Description:
    We are currently undergoing an authority control project, and as a result we plan to integrate our local headings with our LC headings. In order to do this we would like to drop one of our two authorities libraries. Currently ABC10 is used for local subject and ABC12 is used for local names and all LC terms. To load the new authorities records we planned on dropping all the Oracle tables for these two libraries using util/a/17/1 all.

    I know that we need to copy any indexes and logical bases to the new/re-created authorities library (probably ABC10?), but I wonder if there are other considerations that need to be thought over? Like the linking between ABC01 and ABC10? Removing linking to ABC12?

    We do have a test environment in which we can test all these changes before our production authority control takes place.

    Resolution:
    The attached document (CJH.Authority Control Loading Workflow 12022010 --  link below) describes the entire project:
    * load updated bib records from authority vendor
    * load new authority records
    * reindex authority and bib records
    in detail.

    Note: after doing this there were some problems in removing the abc12 library, which are described in KB 8192-807.
