    Description

Can we batch delete items which are on loan or patrons who have items on loan?

    Resolution

The item-deletion (item-11) and patron-deletion (cir-23) programs do not allow the deletion of items on loan or patrons* with loans.  If the loan is being deleted or ignored for a patron, something needs to be done with the item record, since this means that the book is not present in the library.  It would seem that this sequence should be followed:  delete the loan record for any items you are planning to delete.  (This could be done either with the GUI Circ "Delete loan" function or SQL.)  Then run item-11 to delete the items.

In the case where you want to delete a patron who has an item on loan, delete the loan, delete the item (or change its item status to Lost or Missing**), and then delete the patron.

*Note:  The cir-23 patron deletion Service has an "Override Loan" option, but this is not functional.  As noted in the cir-23 Help, loans cannot be overridden.
