Bibliotheca RFID applies only one "write" action when returning and processing in-transit items

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 22
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Problem Symptoms:

    1. An item that belongs to sublibrary A is returned to sublibrary B. When this happens, Aleph creates an internal loan (a transfer) to sublibrary A.

    2. Using Bibliotheca RFID equipment, the following "write" actions occur:
    a. Aleph handles the item return and updates the RFID tag to mark the item as returned.
    b. Aleph creates a loan to sublibrary A and updates the RFID tag to mark the item as being transferred.

    3. However, Bibliotheca expects only one "write" action per item. When checking in bulk returns, the first action (see a. above) is updated on the first item's RFID tag, but the second action (see b. above) is instead applied to the next item on the reader.

    Cause:

This is a known defect with Bibliotheca RFID equipment.

    Resolution:

This was corrected with rep_change #2092 in the release of Aleph version 22.1. When an item that needs to be transferred to another sublibrary has its RFID tag scanned, Aleph will only perform one "write" action so that the item will remain marked as loaned in the RFID, instead of in transit.
