Can ID type 01 (barcode) and ID type 02 (Campus ID) be the same?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
Must IDs be unique WITHIN an Aleph patron record, specifically can ID type 01 (barcode) and ID type 02 (Campus ID) contain the same data for a patron? tab_bor_id.eng as below.

We're working on PRIMO/Aleph SSO. Our users sign in to PRIMO and are authenticated against our Campus Shibboleth database, and we would like to have them validated in Aleph with ID type 02. However, for some users, their barcode number (ID type 01) and Campus ID number (ID type 02) are the same.

    02 L Campus ID 00 Y Y Y N

    03 L Additional ID 03 00 Y Y Y N
    04 L Additional ID 04 00 N Y Y Y
    05 L Additional ID 05 00 N Y Y Y
    06 L Campus Access 00 Y N N N

    Resolution:
The use of the same Z308-KEY-DATA for a z308 with a different key type is prohibited only for a *different* patron. For the same patron, the same Z308-KEY-DATA is always permissible.

Thus, there is no problem with you having both a z308
    "0155566677 OPE50" and a z308
"0255566677 OPE50" for the same patron.

I have created KB 16384-41025 with a complete description of the Aleph duplicate patron ID logic.
