Catalog is locked"; 'there are no records associated with this heading'

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 21

    Problem Symptoms:
    1. Users cannot access the records. The web opac says that the Catalog is locked.

    2. Staff mode says 'there are no records associated with this heading'

    3. Server log has:

Error: io_z00 - table doesn't exist in database or tab_io_remote for library:

Error: create_library_file_name - no env variable found for _dev
    defaulting to aleph_dev.... tab_tag_text

    Cause:
The previous night's clear_vir01 had failed. The clear_vir01 log contains z05 errors.

This is like KB 8192-9608 ("OPAC searches not working: 'no items found, modify your search' .)

    Resolution:
    * clear_vir01 should be run (in cold mode) using the following commands:

    > cd $aleph_proc
    > csh -f clear_vir01 VIR01 > & clear_vir01.mmdd.log &

    * The permanent solution: "Adding entries to the job_list to stop the www_server and pc_server before clear_vir01 and to restart it afterwards. {See KB 5737 ("Restarting servers from job_list ") for how to do this.}"

    Additional Information

    * Restarting Aleph didn't help. * Total restart of Oracle, Aleph and Apache didn't help. * Circ was working OK and bib record could be accessed by its system number.
