Creating a browse index for call numbers in XXX30 library

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
We are trying to set up an index for all call numbers that can be used in the opac for the XXX30 libraries. I am working on that in ABC30 on Test so that it can (hopefully) be copied to the other XXX30 libraries in our consortium once it's working.

Our call numbers are indexed in tab11_ind an based on the LOC tag. We call the LOC## index LCI2 both in ABC01 and ABC30.

It doesn't seem to be working. I have checked tab00 and tab11_ind in ABC30.

What are we missing? The error message we get in the opac when trying a call number search in the ABC30 opac is: "Browse request found no entries."

    Resolution:
util f/4 for the abc30 z11 confirms that there are no z11 records for LCI2.

The abc30 tab11_ind is correctly set up to send the LOC## field to the LCI2 index, but LOC is a virtual field. It doesn't exist in the record. You need to have the proper expand to generate it.

In the case of the Direct index, the proper tab_expand label is INDEX. Thus, you need to add one of the following to the abc30 tab_expand. Either:

    INDEX expand_doc_bib_loc_usm

    or

    INDEX expand_doc_bib_loc_1_a
    INDEX expand_doc_bib_loc_1_b
    INDEX expand_doc_bib_loc_1_b2
    INDEX expand_doc_bib_loc_1_c
    INDEX expand_doc_sort_loc_b
    INDEX expand_doc_bib_loc_2_a
    INDEX expand_doc_bib_loc_3_a
    INDEX expand_doc_bib_loc_4_a

    And then rerun p_manage_05.
