    Difference between "Lost" and "Missing"

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
What is the difference between a Lost item and a Missing item?

    Resolution:
Items which the patron has reported as lost or long-overdue items should be given a z36 (item loan) status of "Lost". Lost is used for items which have a patron associated with them.

A z30 item processing status of MI or MS is used for items which are gone but you don't know who has them.

When an item with a z36 (item loan) status of "Lost" is returned, the loan record will be deleted (and a Z36H record will be created).

When an item with a z30 item processing status of MI or MS is returned, a message appears indicating the status, but it is *not* automatically blanked out.

    Additional Information

    lost, missing, item
