    Question

Do Aleph ports make use of tcp wrappers?
Example SIP2 server (5331) or OCLC server (5771)

    Answer

It is not possible to restrict access to the Aleph services SIP2 server (port 5331) and OCLC server (port 5771) by means of the security tool TCP Wrapper.

    Cause:
    ------
TCP Wrapper can only be used for services which satisfy one of the following conditions:

-- the service is controlled by the Internet services demon (inetd or xinetd)
-- the binary executable file of the service is linked to a TCP Wrapper library (e.g. /lib64/libwrap.so.0)

Neither of the Aleph services SIP2 server and OCLC server satisfies one of the conditions above. This applies to all versions of Aleph.
