Do the contents of OPAC emails reside on the server?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
A question about sending email from the OPAC

Perform a search that brings in 5K+ records, the hits line reads this:
Records 1 - 10 of 5857 (maximum display and sort is 1000 records).
Click 'Select All' then 'Save/Mail', select MARC format, put in an email address and click Go and get a 2MB email sent.

What happens to the 2MB email on the server side? Does it sit in a scratch or tmp directory taking up space?

    Resolution:
In $alephe_tab there is a file called send_mail. This is used when sending email from the OPAC. It is a script so you can view the contents. In there is a line that creates a temporary file and a second line, at the end of the script, that deletes the temporary file. So to answer the question, the file is deleted and it does not remain on the server.
