    Exact search with ADJACENCY; Exact search with Boolean operators

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
    1. When searching an exact phrase in quotes with Adjacency = Y, the search "ignores" the quotes;
    2. Boolean operators in quotes are ignored.
    3. "&" and "AND" in quotes return different results. Without quotes have same results.

    Resolution:
    1. ADJACENCY "neutralizes" the quotes, since they both have the same meaning;
    2. Boolean operators in quotes do not have Boolean meaning and are searched as part of a string.
    3. "&" and "AND" in a simple search (not phrase) have the same function (Boolean "AND"). The plus sign "+" behaves the same way.
    In a "phrase" search (within quotes), these signs no longer have Boolean meaning, and are searched as part of a string;
    In a search with "ADJ=Y", the quotes are ignored, since quotes and ADJ=Y have the same meaning. The results are same as a string without quotes.

    (Keywords: amp, ampersand, AND, adj, not)
