Exporting records from OCLC to Aleph doesn't work

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
We are experiencing problems trying to export records from OCLC to Aleph and it was working earlier today. We log on to OCLC ; search for a record ; export record and when we go to Aleph to retrieve the title it is not there, usually the record comes through to Aleph pretty quick. We have stopped & started the OCLC server (util w), and we've checked the port & ip address. Is there something we are missing or need to do? Can you direct us to the log files for this and anything else we may need to do in order to get this working correctly?

    Resolution:
    The oclc_server logs are $LOGDIR/oclc_server.

In this case, the log had these messages:

    Oracle error: handle_connection
ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (%s) exceeded

The site had done an incremental backup of Oracle (which is normally done at night) in the middle of the day today.

Shutting Oracle down (util o/1/2) and restarting it (util o/1/1) corrected the problem.

If it happens again, the site will increase the number of oracle processes, per Article 000036727 ("Number of Oracle processes exceeded") (link below).
