    Extraneous holdwait letters created when requested item is put In Transit

    Description:
    We've recently activated sending of the hold request wait letter, via ue_06. Our staff are finding that xtraneous holdwait letters are created when the requested item is put In Transit. The next hold request in line gets re-created and thus gets another wait letter sent. What is causing this and how can I stop it?

    Resolution:
    According to the usm50/tab/tab100 header for UPDATE-RECALL-DATE you're supposed to have one OR the other of the following configurations:

    1. UPDATE-RECALL-DATE=Y and p_cir_13 NOT running
    2. UPDATE-RECALL-DATE=N and p_cir_13 IS running

    Be sure that you have one or the other of the above configurations. If you use a combination of these two configurations it will cause extraneous holdwait letter generation.

    If you opt for option #2 [UPDATE-RECALL-DATE=N and p_cir_13 IS running], you may also want to add this to the alephe/tab/job_list to run at certain intervals (e.g. hourly). It's also recommended that since you're using an in-transit local patron (z305) that represents the item sublibrary, you will want to exclude this patron status (e.g. 91) from the hold wait generation in cir-13. If you do not do this, when cir-13 runs, it will recall the transfer loan and create a recall notice to the pseudo patron. Below is an example of an hourly run of cir-13 that excludes patron status 91:
