    Question

    a) Doing the following search in the GUI in BIB library produces 5000 records

Advanced Search > Collection code = ABC

When we then break it down by sublibrary as follows:

    b) Collection code = ABC AND sublibrary = LAW produces 3500 records then
    c) Collection code = ABC AND sublibrary = MED produces 2000 records which
makes a total of 5500 records.

Please can you offer an explanation as to why the total of b) + c) is not equal to a). Why is there a difference?

    Answer

There is a difference of 500 BIB records. If you search for
Collection code =ABC AND sublibrary = LAW AND sublibrary = MED
you get 500 records. These records all have 2 linked items (one with sublibrary = LAW, one with sublibrary = MED).
