How should issn/isbn filing routines be applied?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
I'm reviewing xxx01 tab_filing in preparation for reindexing in v.18.01. I have a question about the application of the issn and isbn filing rules. The last line in the Resolution section of KB #3852 says: " [From Development:] All necessary filing routines for issn and isbn are within the filing routines. It should be just a single line, like this: 26 isbn"

Does this mean our existing procedures:

    !* ISBN
    35 F del_subfield
    35 F to_lower
    35 F isbn
    35 F pack_spaces

    !* ISSN
    36 F del_subfield
    36 F to_lower
    36 F issn
    36 F pack_spaces

    should be shortened to:

    !* ISBN
    35 F isbn

    !* ISSN
    36 F issn

    Resolution:
The filing_isbn.cbl and filing_issn.cbl programs delete the subfield, normalize the case, and pack spaces, so -- although it does no harm -- it is not necessary to include these other routines. However, we recommend to include "to_lower" if you would like to search "X" in the ISBN/ISSN as lower case "x".
