How to change alphanumeric characters in field 001 to system number?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Desired Outcome Goal:
In some of our older records we have in field 001 not the system number but a number preceded by alphanumeric characters. How to change the IDN field to correct system number?

    Procedure:
Sample number in field 001: UKCovb71428, system number is 000071428

    Instructions
    (1) In xxx01/tab/tab_fix add the following line:
    IDN fix_doc_001
    (2) Retrieve all records which have “UKCovb” in field 001 using Retrieve Catalog Records (ret-01)
    (3) Create an output file from result of p_ret_01 using Download Machine-Readable Records (print-03) and select only field 001
In output file you have then a list of records with according IDN field:
    000071428 001 L UKCovb71428
    (4) Run Load ALEPH Sequential MARC Records (manage-18) for output file of p_print_03 and load the field back to the records in the database. Use fix routine “IDN” so that the IDN field will be updated from field system number
Afterwards the IDN field is update with record's system number

    Additional Information

Please note that the records are re-indexed during load.
