    How to see if xxx30 Course library is defined -- and start using it

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
    We are considering piloting use of the Aleph Reserves module in two sublibraries. I'd like to know more about steps that would be involved, time it would take, local resources, etc.

    Resolution:
    The xxx30 Course Reserves library is easier to work with than the bib, ADM, HOL or authority libraries: since the library is so much smaller, one can index or reindex the records (via p_manage_40 / ue_01) in no time at all. I would say that the xxx30 would take about 2/3 as much time as you spent working on these other libraries.

    I ran the diagnostic SQL from in KB 8192-6423 for abc30 on your Test server:

    abc30@ALEPH20> select index_name from all_indexes where owner = 'USM30' and index_name like 'Z%' minus select index_name from all_indexes where owner = 'ABC30' and index_name like 'Z%' and status = 'VALID';
    **** Hit return to continue ****

    INDEX_NAME
    ------------------------------
    Z00T_ID

    This shows that all the Oracle indexes defined for usm30 are present and valid for abc30 -- except the z00t. (The z00t is an optional table, new with v20. If you want to define it for abc30, you can do so as described in KB 16384-42497.)

    Thus, it seems that abc30 is ready for use. You can add abc30 to the .\alephcom\tab\library.ini and the .\cataloging\tab\per_lib.ini on your pc. And then, as described in the "Aleph User's Guide -- Course Reading and Reserves" and the "System Librarian's Guide -- Course Reading and Reserves":

    * connect with your Circ client to abc50
    * click on the Admin tab (the pencil-box) on the left
    * highlight the "List of Courses" option below and select "New" on the far right.
