Items out of order in Item List in Web or GUI

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 17.01

    Description:
The items in the Item List in the Web Holdings Detail (or in the GUI Cataloging or Serials) are out of order.

    Resolution:
There are two different situations: ISSUE items (z30_material = ISSUE) and non-ISSUE items.

ISSUE items *should* have the z30_enumeration / z30_chronological values, which are always sorted numerically, filled in. But if some items --almost always converted items-- don't have these enum/chron fields populated, they will not sort properly.

Even if the items are not ISSUE items, if they have values in the z30_enumeration / z30_chronological and if the xxx01/tab/tab_z30_sort is set to 00, 01, 02, or 04, then they, also, will sort numerically. (Note: The xxx01/tab/tab_z30_sort WWW-A value is used in the Web Holdings Detail; the xxx50/tab/tab_z30_sort is used in the different GUI Items Lists.)

(SI 41087 describes principles for entering data into the z30_enumeration fields.)

But it is often the case that non-ISSUE items do not have z30_enumeration / z30_chronological values; in that case they will sort by z30_description --which is a character data-type and does not sort numerically.

KB 8192-4025 describes the different options that can be used to sort items in the Web and GUI.

If you want to sort by sublibrary first, see SI 41171.
