No fines being charged for overdue items with newly-added item status

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
On our production machine I have set up a new item status (25) for items being loaned for 4 hours at a time. I have set up tab16 to charge fines of $1.25 an hour up to a $25 maximum after a 1 hour grace period. However, no overdue fines are being charged for patron status 01 and 08 (two patron statuses we have tested with). Have I missed a table in the set up?

    Resolution:
KB 8192-4555 is a general analysis of how regular overdue fines are calculated.

tab16 looks OK; but util f/2/10 shows no fine.

Looking at the abc50 tab18.eng, I see the following:

    !1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
    !!!!-!!!!!-!!-!!-!-!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!-!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!
    0003 ##### ## ## N 0 Late return
    0003 ##### ## 06 N 0 Late return
    0003 ##### ## 07 N 0 Late return
    0003 ##### ## 08 N 0 Late return
    0003 ##### ## 16 N 0 Late return
    0003 LAW ## ## N 0 Late return

The "N" in column 5 means: "do not register cash transaction". This is why you are not getting any fine.

Do you not normally charge fines and this is the first situation in which you have wanted to?

If so, then you should add a line like the following before the first 0003 line:

    0003 ##### 25 ## Y 0 Late return <-- insert
    0003 ##### ## ## N 0 Late return
