    • Product Version: 20

    Problem Symptoms:
    When attempting to view tablespace via util o /14/1 these messages are displayed:
    ERROR:
    ORA-00257: archiver error. Connect internal only, until freed.

    SP2-0306: Invalid option.

    SP2-0306: Invalid option.
    Usage: CONN[ECT] [logon] [AS {SYSDBA|SYSOPER|SYSASM}]
    where <logon> ::= <username>[/<password>][@<connect_identifier>] [edition=value] | /
    SP2-0157: unable to CONNECT to ORACLE after 3 attempts, exiting SQL*Plus

    Cause:
    The directory storing oracle files was full.

    Resolution:
    Free disk space e.g. by removing old archive log files.

    Additional Information

    Archive log files would be used to recover using a hot backup. You would restore the database from the most recent cold backup and then apply the archive log files created since that cold backup.
    Thus, you need to keep all of the archive log files which have been written since your most recent cold backup. Log files older than the cold backup can be removed.
