Oracle 11 question: emagent (Enterprise Manager) shutdown

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
I am trying to figure out what feature in aleph application is controlling the shutdown/startup of oem agent on libprd.

Right now on libprd, we have 2 emagents running (one started on Apr13 and other on Mar 12) --

    oracle 29935 26522 0 Apr 13 ? 17:34 /oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db/bin/emagent
    oracle 19154 448 0 Mar 12 ? 138:52 /oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db/bin/emagent

I have not started or shutdown the emagent manually, so I'm not sure how (or why) we have these 2 agents running on libprd.

    Resolution:
As described in KB 16384-26194, which I just created from another SI, "emagent" is the process generated by the Oracle Enterprise Manager. The EM has never been required by Aleph, but, as described in KB 16384-16369, is highly recommended in Oracle 11.

Thus, it seems that it is normal for these emagent processes to be running in Aleph 20.

The shutdown of the EM is described in section 5.4.4 of the document at http://www.scribd.com/doc/6698485/CAPS-Install-Guide :

To shut down Enterprise Manager on a UNIX system

1 Change to the directory where you installed Enterprise Manager (for example:
    /home/username/JavaCAPS51/emanager/
    ).
    2 Type:

    stopserver.sh

to stop the Enterprise Manager Server. The server takes a short amount of time to shut down.
