    Oracle Statistics on XXX01.Z00R?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 19.01

    Description:
We know that running Oracle statistics on the Aleph Oracle database causes problems with the application due to query optimizer settings. But, is it OK to run statistics on XXX01.Z00R? I assume that this table is not used by the application and exists only for reporting purposes. Is this correct? We would like to run stats to help with reporting query speed. Will stats on Z00R cause problems?

    Resolution:
The z00r table read by the Aleph programs in order to decide whether a new z00r should be produced, or an update. In both this read and in the subsequent update, the presence of Oracle Statistics on the table (especially a large table like this) would cause the updates to be extremely slow.

I do not believe that having the statistics would help with reporting query speed anyway -- in particular if the queries are randomly accessing the z00r's. In this case, the z00r_id needs to be used and we have seen that the Statistics undermine the use of the Oracle indexes.
