Oracle shutdown and startup scripts
- Article Type: General

Description:
I would like to shutdown Oracle for this weekend and I would like to practice with our startup and shutdown. I don't see where it shutdown Oracle, can someone look at this for me when they get a chance and if Oracle is not getting shutdown, let me know what values to give for an Oracle shutdown.
Resolution:
Note: Oracle restart needs to be preceded by aleph_shutdown and followed by aleph_startup. See the article " Proper way to restart Oracle on an Aleph server " in this regard. As described in the article, in an "All-in-One" setup, Oracle can be restarted using util o/1/2 .
Or:
Login as user oracle
Run command
$ dbshut
It's located in $ORACLE_HOME/bin. or
run
$ svrmgrl > connect internal > shutdown immediate {Oracle shutdown is not supposed to be included into aleph shutdown.}
Oracle startup and shutdown script are $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart and $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut.
It's a responsibility of sysadmin to create system script which calls those scripts when the server starts and stops.}
