    Preserving stats for reserve materials

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
We place items on reserve, which involves changing the item collection. We want to get circulation stats from ARC on our reserve circulation, but when we take an item out of the reserve collection and place it back in the general collection the circ stats get moved as well. Other than running the circ reports prior to taking anything off reserve, and then manually subtracting those numbers from the year-end general collection numbers, has anyone found a decent way to keep track of statistics for reserve materials?

    Resolution:
In addition to collection, we also change the item status on reserve items. We do this partly to preserve statistics, but also to change the loan period from 4 weeks to 2 hours. Only reserve items use this item status. We actually have a reserve item status for each semester, so in addition to the circulation dates, we can tell it was on reserve for Fall term, Spring term, etc. The item status is stored in the z35 statistics, so unlike the collection, it is still useful for reporting later.

Thanks to Christine Moulen, MIT Libraries for posting this information to the ALEPH-NA list.
