    Problems with SIP2 connections

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Problem Symptoms:
Sometimes during late evening we are having connection problems and timeouts on our self check machines. Is there any problem with Alephs SIP2 server?
Last occurrence of this problem was Wed Nov 09 around 22:00.

    Cause:
    SYS_AUTO_SQL_TUNING_TASK is running

    Resolution:
In Oracle alert log we see that at this time scheduled tuning job SYS_AUTO_SQL_TUNING_TASK was running:

    Wed Nov 09 22:00:04 2011
Begin automatic SQL Tuning Advisor run for special tuning task "SYS_AUTO_SQL_TUNING_TASK"
    Wed Nov 09 22:00:48 2011
Thread 1 advanced to log sequence 59967 (LGWR switch)
    Current log# 5 seq# 59967 mem# 0: /oracle/oradata/aleph0/aleph0_redo_05.log
    Wed Nov 09 22:17:13 2011
End automatic SQL Tuning Advisor run for special tuning task "SYS_AUTO_SQL_TUNING_TASK

This job is used to tune SQL queries and very heavy for Oracle DB. So in case you have problems with SIP2 connections we recommend to reschedule it to a time where SIP2 server (and other Aleph processes) are down so that there is no conflict. In general it is sufficient to perform the job once a week.

In attached document you find instructions how to reschedule the job using Oracle OEM console.
