Question about AMM "recommendation" in database upgrade documentation

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
My manager has requested that I look into the usage of Automatic Memory Management (AMM) in our databases supporting Aleph. There is a concern held by some that AMM is not appropriate for large databases. However, upon review of the document "How to Upgrade Oracle Software and Database from Oracle Version 10.2.0.4 to 11.1" the instructions specify the following:

"Replace the parameter sga_target with the parameter memory_target. Set the value to the same number, 160 MB, at least."

To me, this suggests that AMM is expected to be used, but there is no explicit requirement stated that one NEEDS to use AMM. I was wondering if you could clarify if AMM is required and/or recommended and if so, why?

    Resolution:
From Ex Libris: We used memory_target in our regression tests when moving to Aleph20 and did not find it problematic to let Oracle handle all those memory components, so we have kept this parameter.
