Removing (or Changing) the GUI Reporting Center Menu Entry

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
Is it possible to remove or change the Aleph Reporting Center (ARC) option from the ALEPH menu in the GUI modules?

    Resolution:
To enable access to the ARC (ALEPH Reporting Center) from the GUI modules:
[1] Enter the ARC URL in the tab100 table of the relevant libraries (BIB/Cataloging or ADM/Circ, Acq, etc) and restart the PC Server. Example:
    ARC-URL=http://ram19:8080/crn
[2] Add the menu entry label to AL500\ALEPHCOM\TAB\ENG\MENU.DAT
    REPORTING_CENTER #Reporting Center
[3] In alephcom.ini, check that your Web browser is defined in the [Main] section. Example:
    Browser=C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

You can remove access to ARC via the GUI menus by commenting out the tab100 entries listed in step 1.
Since the Reporting Center menu entry cannot be removed or grayed out, instead try the following to change this otherwise annoying entry into a feature - link it to another website, for example, your library catalog.
    [1] In AL500\ALEPHCOM\TAB\ENG\MENU.DAT replace:
    REPORTING_CENTER #Reporting Center
    with
    REPORTING_CENTER #Library Catalog
[2] In the tab100 files mentioned above, instead of commenting out the ARC-URL, change it to:
    ARC-URL=http://yourcatalog.edu/F
Or some other link that your staff will find useful.

Please note: If you get an error when accessing the ARC from an ALEPH GUI module via the "Report Center" ALEPH menu option (error = "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"), there may be an unnecessary “/” at the end of the URL:
    Correct
    ARC-URL=http://aleph.edu:8080/crn
    Incorrect:
    ARC-URL=http://alephedu:8080/crn/
