    Request on maximum of one item per HOL/BIB?

    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Question

    Is there a way to prevent a user from requesting more than one item per HOL or BIB record ... without using the Title Request (Bib Request) function?

    Answer

    There's no provision in Aleph for preventing the request of a "like-item" of an existing request, but, if tab15.lng, column 11

    ! COL 11. 1; ALPHA {Y,N}, UPPER; ;
    ! Specific item;
    ! if this column is set to Y, the request will be for
    ! the specific item, not another like copy,
    ! regardless of whether the request is initiated from
    ! the Web OPAC or from the GUI;

    is set to "N", then a request will automatically apply to all like copies and patrons will soon realize that there is no advantage to placing the request on multiple copies.
