Service which searches headings (Browse) indexes

    Question

Is there a service which searches headings (Browse) indexes? ret-03 ("Retrieve Records Using CCL") searches Word indexes and ret-06 ("Retrieve Records by Direct Index") searches Direct indexes, but it seems that nothing searches Browse indexes.

    Answer

ret-03 functions exactly as CCL (Common Command Language) search does. As described in the Web OPAC Help -> Search -> CCL Codes , in addition to searching Word indexes, CCL can be used to search Browse indexes.

If one enters "aut=shakespeare*" as a CCL search, one will retrieve the expected results.

./pc_b_help_eng/p-ret-03.html (Help file) corrected by v22 rep_change 000121: changed to indicate that ret-03 can also search the Headings index.

    Additional Information

Note that, unless the exact, complete heading is entered in, the truncation character ? or * must be used. Also, there is no automatic omission of initial articles; the searcher must omit them.
