    Set Firefox as Browser for Viewing Records in OPAC Format in Cataloging

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Desired Outcome Goal:
    Change the default browser from Internet Explorer to Firefox for the GUI
    Modifying the browser= line in the "[Main]" section of .\alephcom\tab\alephcom.ini doesn't change the browser when selecting "View in OPAC" or clicking the button External in a full format record URL.

    Procedure:
    To change the default browser, in the PC file .\alephcom\tab\alephcom.ini, change the browser from
    htm=A X C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE %s [old entry for IE]
    to
    htm=A X C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.EXE %s [new entry for Firefox]

    Additional Information

    * The Aleph GUI Cataloging Browser tab permits the cataloger to preview a record as it is displayed to the public in the Aleph OPAC (CTRL-O). Aleph uses ActiveX in order to display the OPAC record in HTML format within the Aleph GUI cataloging module. The display browser-independent. It is not intended to serve as a gateway to the OPAC, simply as a way to see how records would display there in HTML.
    * If a staff user clicks on links in the Cataloging GUI Browser tab, the link opens a pop-up window. By default, ActiveX invokes IE. If staff users need to pursue links from the OPAC record, it is recommended that they do so directly from the OPAC itself in their preferred browser and links will operate as expected.
