Sorting of numbers in browse / heading list

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 21

    Desired Outcome Goal:
Numbers are sorted alphabetical in heading lists but should be sorted numerical. How to setup?

    Example from AUT heading list:
    Mann, Thomas Werke 1
    Mann, Thomas Werke 11
    Mann, Thomas Werke 2

    Procedure:
By default numbers are sorted alphabetically (1, 11, 2) and not numerically (1, 2, 11). For changing the sorting add "expand_num" to according filing routine in xxx01/tab/tab_filing which expands any number to 9 digits. For the above example this would mean that the numbers would internally be saved as
    000000001
    000000002
    000000011

However the display of the numbers in GUI would not change, meaning that there would not appear "000000002" instead of "2".

    Excerpt from tab_filing header:
! - expand_num: expand number (add leading zeroes to fill numbers
! to a certain number of digits - specified as a parameter -
    ! for numeric filing).
    ... and ...
! - When using both "numbers" and "expand_num" in the same section,
    ! "numbers" must precede "expand_num"

    Additional Information

After changing the configuration re-indexing is required
    - Only for new added records restart ue_01
    - For reindexing all existing records run "Update Headings Index (manage-02)"

Please note also that changing the filing configuration will be then valid for all headings which are using the same filing routine! Please check carefully whether this is applicable for all headings.
