    Subject heading anomaly

    This doesn't seem to be hurting anything but it is peculiar. Occasionally subject headings in a different language than English appear in bib records that display in the lower pane of the GUI in the Full + Link display. An example is system record number: 010119569. There is an entry for a subject heading "Oeconomica" even though it doesn't appear in the record in OCLC or in the GUI MARC record. Where is this coming from?

    Resolution:
    This display uses the GUI-DOC-D section of tab_expand. I find these two procedures for this section:

    GUI-DOC-D expand_doc_bib_hol_usm
    GUI-DOC-D expand_doc_bib_multi_lng

    The display you are seeing is generated by expand_doc_bib_multi_lng. (The actual field is coming from Authority record #149914.)

    There's no harm in removing the expand_doc_bib_multi_lng procedure from this section of tab_expand. There's no need for a comparable expand to deal with English. This happens automatically.
