Support of Oracle Linux in Aleph

    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23

    Question

Oracle Linux" is 100% compatible to "Red Hat Linux". As Aleph is certified for "Red Hat Linux" can we assume that we also can use "Oracle Linux" with Aleph?

    Answer

We do not officially support Oracle Linux and never did a certification for it. It should basically work as long as it keeps 100% compatibility with Red Hat Linux.  We don't plan any future tests for existing versions on this platform.

At http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/partners/default-1742089.html we find: "Oracle Linux is completely open source and fully compatible—both source and binary—with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, a fact that is validated by the Edison Group and in certification with the Linux Standard Base (LSB)."

It should be noted that, though there may well be customers using Oracle Linux with Aleph, we are not aware of any.
