Task Manager/FileList: "Processing request, please wait"; or Circ client crashes

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
Having run a p_cir_13 report on our Test server, when I try to access the GUI Circ Task Manager/FileList to print the report, it keeps processing and doesn't quit. (It shows "Processing request, please wait" on the very bottom left of the screen.) So, now you can't access the file list at all on any computer.

[Note: You may eventually see the message: "Server failed to execute request after 60 seconds."]

In another case, the Circulation client terminated when they tried to access the FileList.

    Resolution:
When you request the abc50 Task Manager/FileList in GUI Circ, the client is reading/displaying the files in the abc50 $data_print directory.

When I went to the abc50 $data_print directory on the Test server, I found that there were 10,000 files, occupying more than 9 gig. (The reason that there were so many is that the p_cir_11, p_cir_12, p_cir_16, and p_cir_17 are set in the job_list to run daily, and no clean-up had occurred for more than a year.)

I first created a /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/abc50/print.temp directory and copied the entire /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/abc50/print directory to it.

Then I ran util x/9 ("Clean data_print") to delete all /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/abc50/print files older than 100 days. This deleted 9,000+ files.

You should now find that the Task Manager/FileList works OK.

If there are files in the /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/abc50/print.temp directory which you want saved, you should copy them over to /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/abc50/print, and then delete the /exlibris/aleph/u20_1/abcu50/print.temp directory.

[Note: In another case, there were fewer files, but moving them aside still fixed the problem.]

You want to move files out of the directory, up to and including, if necessary, the point where the directory is empty.
